Anatomical Regions of the Pharynx.
The pharynx is a four to five inch fibromuscular tube that conducts air from
the nasal cavity to the larynx. Its three anatomical regions are named and described
below. Nasopharynx Behind the nasal cavity - internal nares (choanae) to soft
palate. Oropharynx Behind the root of the tongue - soft palate to the epiglottis of the larynx
and hyoid bone. Laryngopharynx Behind the larynx - epiglottis to cricoid cartilage
of the larynx.
