The longissimus capitis muscle is a long flat muscle on the side of the neck.

Attachments of Longissimus Capitis: Origin & Insertion
Origin: Transverse processes T1 – T5: articular processes of C4 or C5-C7 vertebrae.
Insertion: Posterior portion of the mastoid process of the temporal bone.
Actions of the Longissimus Capitis Muscle:
- Bilateral action extends and hyperextends the head.
